About WCGH

In 1984, the hospital completed a major upgrading of its physical plant with a significant increase in the square footage, which provided an expansion of the inpatient and outpatient services already available but with no increase in bed complement. This renovation was necessitated by a tremendous increase in patients utilizing this facility due to a significant number of specialists who had been added to our staff.

In 1988, a second addition to the Professional Medical Building adjacent to the hospital was completed. A major construction/renovation project for the departments of Emergency Service and Radiology, with changes also being made in other ancillary departments, has been completed resulting in an in‑house CAT scanner and MRI unit as well as new fluoroscopy and nuclear medicine units. A stereotactic Mammography Unit was installed in 1993. PET scanner services are available on a mobile basis.

Waldo County General Hospital offers a dedicated Inpatient Hospice Unit in the State of Maine.

A Renal Dialysis Unit and Sleep Disorders Laboratory add to our unique services. During the Hospital’s 100th year anniversary celebration, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held in honor of the recently completed $12-million hospital expansion which included a complete renovation and upgrade of all hospital departments totaling 50,000 square feet of new space and 30,000 square feet of renovation to existing space.

The hospital, in 2006, completed an Operating Room/Recovery Room construction project adding three new surgical suites and two procedure rooms.
