About the City of Belfast

Belfast is a city located on Penobscot Bay and currently has a population of approximately 7,500. Towns within a four-mile distance add another 8,500 persons to the immediate area. The remaining service areas population consists of towns within a radius of approximately 15 miles from Belfast. Over the past decade Waldo County had the greatest increase in population (22%) of all counties in the State of Maine. Much of this may be attributed to its location on the ocean with a smog free environment and a low crime rate when compared with other areas, even in Maine. The City of Belfast, founded in 1770 and incorporated in 1853, is historic in nature, having three separate areas of the city listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
