What is the Waldo Weighs-In Competition?
• A 25-week weight-loss/wellness competition organized by staff from the Wellness Committee.
• The registration deadline is January 9, 201.
• The challenge will begin with a weigh-in on January 11, 2012 (this is a Wednesday), and will end with a weigh-in on June 28, 2012.
• Teams of two will compete to lose the highest percentage of weight – not necessarily the amount of weight during the competition. (i.e. starting weight of 220 lbs. and ending weight of 200 lbs. would be a loss of 9% body weight).
• If you participated in WWI II, your last recorded weight will be used as your starting weight for WWI III.
• Prizes will be disbursed to the team with the highest percentage of body weight lost for each week with a “Grand Prize” awarded for the highest percentage lost over all. Additional prizes will be awarded throughout the competition.
How does it work?
• In order to participate you must have a partner. You can choose anyone 16 or older as your partner. If your partner is under the age of 18, we require written parental consent. Your partner does not need to be a WCGH employee as long as you are.
• Each competitor must pay an entry fee of $40 one time payment due by the first weigh-in unless other arrangements are made in advance.
• Each competitor weighs in on Thursdays (unless other arrangements are made) in the Employee Health Office with Vicci Babson, Medical Affairs with Cathy Ciofolo, or Nutrition Services with Kay Fischer.
• ALL WEIGH-INS WILL BE CONFIDENTIAL.
What are the rules?
• ALWAYS CONSULT YOUR HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONAL BEFORE MAKING ANY SIGNIFICANT CHANGES TO YOUR DIETARY HABITS OR YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY ROUTINES.
• If you participated in WWI II, your last recorded weight will be used as your starting weight for WWI III.
• Weigh-ins will be one-on-one with either Vicci Babson of Employee Health, Cathy Ciofolo of Medical Affairs, or Kay Fischer of Nutrition Services who will handle the weigh-in and your weight with sensitivity and confidentiality. Your team name and percentage of weight lost will be posted on the Waldo Weighs-In Bulletin Board and via e-mail.
•You are strongly encouraged to weigh-in weekly; however to be eligible for the final prize, all participants, employees and non-employees, must come to WCGH for the first and last two weigh-ins.
• All weigh-in locations will be equipped with a locked box and form with name, weight, and challenge completion questions; therefore if Cathy, Kay or Vicci is not available you still have the opportunity to weigh-in. These boxes will be checked every Friday by noon, if you are weighing in after noon on Friday, please notify Vicci, Cathy or Kay.
• No disrobing or loading up allowed during weigh-ins.
•You must take off your shoes for all weigh-ins.
• Healthy eating and exercise are encouraged.
• Consistent drastic weight loss and/or medically risky behavior is discouraged and you may be referred to your physician or dietitian for an evaluation. Continued participation in the “Waldo Weighs-In” competition will be based on the physician/dietitian’s recommendations.
• Any participant who begins the competition within a normal weight range may be referred to a dietitian or their primary care provider for prior approval.
• Nutrition education sessions are available to anyone who is interested in getting some help and healthy guidance for their weight loss journey. This will be provided at no cost by a dietitian from the WCGH staff.
• Personal training sessions are available to anyone who is interested in getting some help and healthy guidance for their weight loss journey. This will be provided at no cost by a member of the WCGH staff.
• If you miss a weigh-in one week, your previous week’s weight will be recorded for the missed week (i.e. zero weight loss for that week) and the team will not qualify for prizes for the highest percentage of body weight lost the following week.
• Weigh-ins may take place with or without your teammate. Weights will be individual but the combined percentage lost of your team will be entered for the competition.
• You will be provided an individual weigh-in record to keep track of weight fluctuations.
• Weekly team weight-loss percentages will be posted on the bulletin board in the cafeteria and via email notifications. All results will be posted by your “team name”
• See “drop out” and “how to win” rules below.
What if team members drop out?
• Team members cannot be replaced.
• If a team member drops out, their last official weigh-in will be used for his/her all remaining weigh-ins (zero pounds lost for the remaining weeks).
• Extenuating circumstances will be reviewed by the Waldo Weighs In committee.
How do you win prizes?
• There is an entrance fee of $40.
• To win the weekly biggest loser category, participants must also be weighed in at WCGH the week before. Click here to see the list of weekly prizes.
• All participants are eligible for challenge prizes.
• All participants will be randomly assigned one of four groups (purple, red, blue or black) and will participate in occasional group challenges.
• The value of the prizes will be determined by the amount of entry fees collected for the competition. The more competitors we have, the better the prizes!
